Periodontal disease is a multi-factorial process that involves several components working together. Several of the most common risk factors for developing periodontal disease include the following:
 

  • Smoking / Tobacco Use

  • Genetics

  • Diabetes

  • Cardiovascular Disease

  • Stress

  • Teeth grinding

  • Medications

  • Clenching or Grinding Your Teeth

  • Poor Nutrition and Obesity

  • Age - 70% of Americans over age 65 have gum disease
